Planning For Good Quality Handmade Tomato Cages

By Zelma Hurley

Whether its for your business or for personal use, growing the tomatoes the right way is important. Generally, they are easy to grow. The maintenance is not that difficult and they are adaptable. However, they need some support while growing. Just like how you raise a pet, you will need to guide its development untils its ripe for harvest.

Good news is, you can do the entire process at home. By doing handmade tomato cages, you will be able to maximize the space that you have on the field. The cages allow tomatoes to grow vertically, rather than spread anywhere. With this you can place more of them in the limited area that you have.

If you do not want to hassle yourself with all the things you need to prepare when making it, then you can go for those ready made products in the market. However, if you will be building several cages, then can help you save a lot if you make them by yourself. Yes it will take some time, but the fun of the experience will be worth it. Here are some things you can take note of.

Size of the cage. This is dependent to how big your tomatoes have become. For a safer choice, you can build something that is tall enough to cater its further growth. Measure the width so that the plant will have ample breathing area.

Decide on the main material that you want to use. The Most recommended one are the wires. They can easily be bent and can be readjusted according to what you want. However, you also have other alternatives like the wood and even thing plastic sticks. Its more like your convenience on this part. Woods are more sturdy but you cannot bend them.

Form and style. This has something to do with the the looks of the cage. You can be as creative as you can as long as it controls the growth of the plant in a vertical way. The rectangular one may be a good option when you are using wood. Other styles like the cone shape or the circular ones are also great.

Number of cages. Now since you are doing it by yourself, you can expect to spend some time working on it. The more cages, the longer the time. If you can ask a family member or a close friend to help you, the better. Do an inventory first on how many you need and secure the materials that will be used.

Necessary maintenance. Lastly, think about the maintenance. Just because they only function as containers and guide for the tomato growth does not mean that they do not need maintenance. Wiping them, readjusting and removing those unwanted dirt that has stuck on them is a good way of keeping the materials in good shape.

Proper growth is vital for tomatoes. Placing them inside a cage allows you to save some space and use for growing another set. As an owner, weigh the options that you have to see which among the raw materials can easily be found at home. If you salvage some without spending anything, the better. Do not hesitate if you need assistance from others. Ask them to help you out.
