There are people who loves to plant in their backyards and to harvest their own fruits and vegetables. They usually have it because they want to make sure that the food they eat is safe, less expenses and some of us just really loves to plant. Aside from the fact that it beautify our homes, it actually creates a soothing and relaxing vibe, and it help us connect with nature.

One of the most common vegetable that people wants to eat, not because they are just delicious, but they are nutritional are the asparagus. They are organic food that can help boost the nutrients in our body. Here is some tip on how to plant and grow asparagus in an orderly manner.

Asparagus is a kind of spring vegetable and it is closely related to garlic and onion. The shoots are the commonly eaten because when the buds starts to open, it will turn to woody. There are many ways to serve and eat this and it is popular as an appetizer or a side dish.

It takes about 2 to 3 years for them to produce and be harvested but it can be useful about 20 to 30 years. You can plant it during spring season because of its climate and the soil is perfect for planting as well. Create a layer of 2 to 4 inches into any kind of soil which is good for planting and clear their beds from weeds.

Just check and have a good water system and make 6 inch trench where it is 6 to 12 inches deep. Have a mound inside the trench and start putting the crowns, wherein they are apart of about 15 to 18 inches. Once this was finish, try covering them with soil as a deep two inches and start watering them.

When they are starting to grow, make sure that you fill the trench with soil leaving 3 to 4 inches of the stem to be exposed. By the time that the trench is filled try to add a 4 to 8 inch layer of mulch and water them regularly. Do not harvest it when you reach its first year instead, try cutting down dead foliage.

For the following years, you can harvest them when you noticed that they become more establish and vegetative and the spear is thicker than a pencil. They can be harvested for several weeks once the spears starts to show. After the harvest, allow them to grow again and replenish their nutrients for the next production.

You have the white asparagus, can even grow without so much sunlight and they are delicate, it has fewer fiber composition but it is much sweeter. The other one is the purple asparagus, it is originally purple but once cooked it turns into color green and they have fewer spears. This are its common classification to help you in identifying the one you will be needing.

They are packed with antioxidants properties, because they have the ability that neutralize damage cells and they are good in fighting cancer as well. It helps people who have urine problems since, It has a lot of amino acid that helps reduce salts. Just make sure when you are preparing or cooking you can preserve its nutrient.
