What Every Buyer Should Know About The Purchase And Care Of Full Lace Wigs

By April Briggs

People who have lost their hair due to illness or simply desire a new look, including many celebrities, choose to adorn themselves with natural-looking wigs. Lace wigs feature a thin mesh "lace" cap is worn close to the scalp along the natural hairline to appear as though the hair is actually growing from the head and are a popular choice for the wide range of styles and versatility they offer.

The majority of these wigs are made from human hair which provides more styling options and a more realistic appearance. Full lace units cover the entire head. They can be parted anywhere and styled in a ponytail or updo. Lace front wigs and lace frontals differ in that they feature lace only at the front of the piece, and are used to provide added fullness in the front.

If the wig is well maintained, this will improve its durability and how long it lasts which can be for several years with proper care. When adhesives are used, the wig may be worn for as long as two or three weeks before it will need to be reapplied. Those without natural hair, have better adhesion and can typically wear the wig longer.

It's important to choose a wig cap color which matches one's own skintone as closely as possible. The color choice should be based on the hairline not the whole body. In general those with light skin should choose transparent, medium or tan complexions are best with beige, and darker skinned people can use light or dark brown.

Hair types differ by thickness, sheen, weight, and texture. Wearers who desire a wig which is easy to dye and style may prefer the Chinese remy style, which also offers superb thickness, while those looking for matte waves may choose Mongolian remy, and wearers who want a sleek, silky look are likely to opt for the Indian or Malaysian remy designs.

Proper application technique is essential to any wig looking great. This involves styling one's own hair as close to the head as possible, such as in cornrows, or wearing a wig cap, trimming the lace so it closely fits one's hairline, securing it sufficiently with combs and glue, and for a more realistic-looking hairline, pulling through a few strands of one's own hair and baby hairs can do wonders.

In terms of caring for the wig, it's important to purchase a stand for it to sit on when it is not being worn so it will hold its shape and continue to look its best. Washing must be done using two spray bottles, fill both with water and add shampoo to one and conditioner to the other. Spray with the shampoo mixture, comb through, rinse, and do the same with the conditioner, pat dry and allow to air out on a wig stand.

Wigs fashioned from human hair can be styled more or less the same as one's natural hair. It is safe to use blow dryers, curlers, curling irons, and straighteners on remy hair wigs, but it's not advisable to try to straighten a very curly design, as it will likely go frizzy. If wearing the wig to bed, wrap one's head in a protective scarf and use a satin pillowcase.
