Proving The Supernatural Through Paranormal Tourism

By Tammie Caldwell

Most people do not realize a love for something until having experienced it for the first time. Something that is extremely true when it comes to Paranormal Tourism. While there are a number of shows surrounding ghost hunting and movies like Ghostbusters, many do not take these type movies and shows seriously.

While it is true that Ghostbusters, the movie is a fictional based tale, there are a number of real life paranormal researchers and ghost hunters who work on different cases every day. There are also others who enjoy leading ghost tours in different areas in which sightings have been reported on a regular and ongoing basis. As a result, there are now more jobs being offered in the field of paranormal research than ever before in history.

It seems a number of ghost tours are located in areas with a great deal of history. Whether a soldier from the civil war, or a bride whom jumped to her death, there are often stories which accompany each sighting. One reason the skeptics tend to question the reality of the supernatural, especially when no backup documentation is available related to the tale associated with a haunting.

The ghost tour at the Alamo is different than many others in that the tour guides allow the tourists to use various paranormal equipment during the 90 minute tour. The equipment is most often distributed at the beginning of the tour in which the guests are allowed to tour the grounds of the Alamo in search of various responses to electromagnetic meters and other items. After which, the tour guide then takes the parties to other sites which have reported sightings.

There are also ghost tours in which the guides simply focus on the historical aspects of buildings. These tour guides may lack a fictional tale to go along with the notation of a haunting but generally tourists can sense a feeling of something supernatural. In some cases, guides go as far as to allow tourists to use ghost hunting equipment like those located at the Alamo. As the Alamo has a great deal of history and loss, it is reported to be one of the most haunted sights on the San Antonio ghost tour.

The most ghostly of the ghost tours in the United States is reported to be that of the Queen Mary, now docked in Long Beach, California. The Queen Mary has been featured on a number of ghost hunting shows and is quite well known. As many tourists have noted sightings which have been reported prior to touring the vessel, many more believe this ship to be haunted than believe in the haunting of other locations.

When it comes to haunted cities in the United States, most believe Savannah, Georgia and New Orleans, Louisiana to be the most haunted. St. Augustine, Florida being the oldest city is also rumored to have a number of ghosts residing within the city limits. Most often the ghosts in these areas are rumored to walk cemeteries, reside in bars, basements and historical mansions or roam the streets.

Although, these are not only the only areas haunted by ghosts. As ghosts are reported to be spirits of people were unable to move on due to a tragic passing, ghosts can reside anywhere. As such, whether at the Alamo, a hotel in New Orleans, a graveyard in Savannah, or a boat on the water, a ghost can make anywhere home.
