Purchasing A Grow Kit For Kids

By Olive Pate

You have a great love for gardening and wish to pass on this love to the children in your family. Whether they be your children or grandchildren, purchasing a grow kit for kids will ignite their own passion for planting seeds and growing living things. These small packages will bring on big delights to those you give them to. They will be so excited and delighted to have their own mini garden.

These packages contain everything needed to grow a specific type or types of plants. This includes pots, soil, and seeds. The directions as to how deep to plant the seeds and how much water the plants will need is clearly stated on the packaging. The time it takes to full growth will also be stated.

Youngsters will be able to experience firsthand what it takes to plant and care for seeds. They will also learn the value of consistency in light and water needed to ensure healthy outcome. You will probably see them watching the pots daily for signs of growth and produce or blooms.

Vegetables are excellent plants to sow as children will be more liable to consume them if they have had a large part in the planting and watering process. Quality vegetables that may be planted include carrots, radishes, beans, peas, or small tomatoes.

There are few types of fruit that can be purchased in these packs, but strawberries might be available. They will make great starters for citrus trees such as limes, tangerines, oranges, lemons, and grapefruit. If the climate allows, you could help them plant these in your backyard either straight into the ground or in large pots. They will get such a thrill when they are able to pick the very first pieces of fruit.

They can also plant herbs. These could include cilantro, thyme, dill, mint, peppermint, rosemary, and oregano, just to name a few that will thrive in small pots. When it is time to cook a meal, the children will be very excited to add their very own seasonings which they have helped thrive in pots. The fresh flavorings will entice them to finish their meal and ask for seconds.

And don't forget, they can even plant flowers. These varieties can include daisies, petunias, marigolds, zinnias or any other type of flower. They can later put them in larger pots and place them on a front porch or back patio for all to enjoy. They will also make a great gift for a shut-in or a grandparent.

Starting small will help encourage the little ones to take even more of an interest in the world of gardening. The next season, they can try their hand at larger container gardening and plant more challenging vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers. If you have the backyard space available, till the ground so they can have an in-ground area to plant, weed, fertilize, and harvest their favorites.
