What Gainesville Preschool Is Al About

By Douglas Turner

A preschool is a space for learning or an educational establishment in which children receive early childhood education. The age of children who attend these facilities varies, but ranges from age 3 through to age 5. The kind of education offered in these facilities is meant to come prior to compulsory primary school education. In Gainesville preschool has many other names including kindergarten, Grade 0, pre-K, nursery school, and pre-primary among others.

Preschools originated from an era in time when school was only open to kids that had prior knowledge of reading and writing. It is this restriction on children that can attend school that led to the introduction of a system that would educate orphans and other children whose parents were factory workers. In 1779, Louise Scheppler and Johann Oberlin opened a facility to educate the children of parents who were never at home during daytime.

Shortly after the establishment of the facility headed by Oberlin and Scheppler, people in different location also started to establish similar schools. In 1816, a globally recognized facility was established in Scotland by Robert Owen. The goal of this facility was to prepare children for work by instilling good moral education to them. The facility succeeded in its goal because the children it produced had higher levels of literacy and numeracy.

According to findings by several studies, the years immediately after birth are very vital to learning. The human brain has higher ability to absorb information while still young in comparison to later years in life. Partly, this is because brain development is fastest in early years. When children are exposed to quality teachers and preschools, the resultant positive impact in the long-term improves their outcome in life.

Education in preschools covers a wide variety of subjects. Subjects covered tend to vary from one state to another. However, some general subjects covered in almost all preschools include physical development, mathematical awareness, physical health, creative and aesthetic development, teamwork, social skills, and play. Additional subjects include literacy, scientific thinking, world knowledge, listening, talking, communication including sign language, and personal development among others.

Most states have bodies for regulating many areas of pre-schooling. The bodies regulate student-teacher ratio, class size, curriculum assessment, administration, quality of classrooms, child-teacher interaction, and services available. Children at different ages are placed under different curricular. To ensure that facilities adhere to standards set by the government, regular inspections and evaluations are conducted.

Several studies link several beneficial effects to preschools, but not all. Some studies post opposite findings. The University of California Berkeley and Stanford found that preschool is detrimental to children in some ways. The part of development that is affected negatively is cooperation and social development while those that are positively affected are pre-reading and mathematics.

The possibility of detrimental effects of preschools that some studies have found, make some people to opt to home-school their children. The home environment may be more favorable than the one provided by preschools according o some studies. Preschools adopt different teaching methods to optimize outcomes. Some common techniques for teaching adopted include Forest kindergartens, HighScope, Montessori, Bank Street, Waldorf, and Head Start.
