By Olivia Cross

Collecting items have been the hobby of many people. And usually these are people with money since most of the collectible items are very expensive. When you talk about the expensive category, you can surely agree that most of the antiques have impossible prices. This is probably due to the fact that it has a special value and it has been made on a time when no one in the entire planet have existed.

Most of the antique items are made of glass or other material that is durable. Ceramics are also very popular in this area. The types of collector items does not have any limit at all. There are times when people have a wall displayed with vintage ceramic baby plates and other types of dishes that might also be made out of ceramics.

Most of the time, the plates that you see hanging on the walls are the ones that has been passed from generation to another. There was surely a time when it was being used for the function of a plate. But since it is already a vintage item, it needs to be handled with utmost care.

First of all, you should make sure that it is placed in a safe location. There are several choices for this. You can hang it on the wall so that the little kids would not have access to them easily. And then there are dish racks available and specific for holding antiques. There are also glass cases but this is the least option.

Clean hands is imperative if you are going to touch any parts of it. There are times when the hands are greasy and oily and this is not very suitable for the material since it can easily reflect smears. Always clean your hands first. And it is also not advised to make use of gloves because the item can slip through your hands and that is the end of it.

There are times when the condition of an antique will deteriorate over time. And then it would become more brittle. If this is the case, you have to make sure that you are holding the stronger part. Not the handle or the sides because it might chip without you knowing it.

If you try to have it restored, it would not be a good idea to expose it in glaring heat. This can be the cause of discoloration and it can also bring stains. If you did not have it restored yet, it would be okay to display it anywhere. The material is not susceptible to damage due to heat or a temperature rise.

If you make use of hangers, do not go for the metallic ones especially the ones that will likely rust. It has the capacity to be too tight if the plate stays on it too much. And then it will cause the edges to corrode and ruin the appearance of the plate permanently.

There are several ways that you can clean the plate. You can either dust if off or simply wipe it. Make sure that you use friendly products to not ruin whatever the design is. And if you have not time or knowledge where you can purchase cleaners, always go for the knowledge being imparted by the net for this.
